WALSH CUP - FINAL/Wexford ... 1-13 Kilkenny ... 1-12: Substitute Larry Murphy hit an injury-time point to give Wexford their eighth successive Walsh Cup at Enniscorthy yesterday. Murphy had only been on the pitch 10 minutes when he lobbed over a 40-metre effort from the wing, two minutes deep into injury time, to seal victory.
In the first half Wexford's Barry Lambert hit three superb points, while Paul Sheehan was showing real accuracy for the visitors as the sides went in 0-7 each at the break.
Two pointed frees from Eddie Doyle and a point from Lambert saw Wexford three points clear (0-10 to 0-7) after 41 minutes. Sheehan found the net to level the score a minute later and then a Denis Byrne point had the visitors in front.
Wexford newcomer David O'Brien shot the equalising point after 45 minutes and three minutes later, Gary Laffan hit the net to give the home side a three-point advantage, 1-11 to 1-8. Two points from Sheehan and a point from Kevin Power had the sides level at 1-11 before Lambert and Sheehan exchanged points. Then came Murphy's winner.
