Good Lord Murphy can finally justify Richard Dunwoody's faith with victory in the Coral Eurobet Welsh National at Chepstow tomorrow.

In 1998/9 he was nominated as one of the horses the former champion jockey was most looking forward to riding in the season. But things did not go well that term either for the gelding - whose early progress over fences was hampered by fitness problems - or Dunwoody, who was forced to retire by injury.

But since nursed back to full health by Philip Hobbs, Good Lord Murphy has looked every inch the smart staying chaser he had promised to be.

Caesar's Palace, yet another star unearthed in France by trainer Martin Pipe, is hard to oppose in the Welsh Finale Junior Hurdle, while Ashley Park is the clear form choice for Kempton's Pertemps Christmas Hurdle.
