"I was lucky enough to witness Sonia O'Sullivan's silver medal run and that was a wonderful night for Irish sport.
However, the outstanding memory for me, not just of last year but of all my time watching sport, was Steve Redgrave's fifth gold medal in the heavyweight fours. I was commentating on the race at Penrith that day and I freely admit that for that one occasion, I became a fan with broadcast facilities. And I did go up to him afterwards and ask him to sign my accreditation, something I never did before nor will again. But I really felt privileged to be there and I rank it amongst the truly great sporting moments. Perhaps Matthew Pinsent will emulate Redgrave's feat, but I can't see it ever being bettered. It's a memory that will always stay with me."
