Scottish Premier League/ Celtic 2 Livingston 1: An 87th-minute strike by midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura gave Celtic full points in their Scottish Premier League clash at Celtic Park yesterday.
Celtic now have 48 points, four more than Hearts, who romped to a 5-0 win over 10-man Falkirk, while Rangers are in fifth place after they conceded an injury-time penalty in their 3-3 draw away to basement club Dunfermline Athletic, also yesterday.
Shaun Maloney's 38th-minute penalty had given the home side an interval lead but a calamitous error by Celtic defender Bobo Balde just before the hour mark gifted Paul Dalglish the equaliser.
However, Balde's blushes were spared by Nakamura when the midfielder scored with an unstoppable strike from the edge of the area.
It was the last meaningful incident in a rather strange day at Celtic Park. There was a delay of approximately 45 minutes due to a power failure which had left the crowd a bit flat.
However, the mood inside Celtic Park was lifted when new signing Roy Keane made an appearance on the pitch minutes before kick-off.
Celtic went ahead courtesy of a penalty. Livingston defender Greg Strong pulled down Maloney in the penalty area as the striker weaved his way towards goal. He picked himself up to lash the spot-kick past goalkeeper Roddy McKenzie.
The goal failed to lift Celtic, however, and they paid the price for their lethargy in the 59th minute when Livingston were gifted the equaliser.
With no pressure on him initially, Balde tried to walk the ball out of his own penalty area and was robbed by striker Robert Snodgrass.
The ball broke to the lurking Dalglish, son of former Celtic and Liverpool legend Kenny, and the striker unleashed a powerful drive from the edge of the box which gave goalkeeper Artur Boruc no chance.
Celtic continued to press against the tiring visitors and in the 87th minute they got their reward when Nakamura picked up a Paul Telfer pass, jinked past a couple of tackles then fired in a tremendous shot from the edge of the box.
A relieved Strachan paid tribute to Nakamura for easing the nerves of the anxious Celtic fans in the dying minutes. "We allowed them to come back into the game with a mistake. Anxiety took over for 20 minutes, but we are lucky we have Nakamura who can stay above the anxiety and nervousness," said Strachan.
At Dunfermline, the home side went ahead with a header from Andy Tod in the 16th minute before Danish forward Peter Lovenkrands drew Rangers level five minutes later.
Former Celtic player Mark Burchill put Dunfermline 2-1 ahead but Rangers stormed back after the break. Lovenkrands hammered home a penalty in the 65th minute after Dunfermline's Lee Makel handled in the box and was sent off.
Rangers appeared have tied up the points two minutes later when Chris Burke found the back of the net.
However, when Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos was sent off for a second yellow card and conceded a last-minute penalty, Young ensured Dunfermline shared the points.
Paul Hartley opened the scoring for Hearts in the 20th minute at Tynecastle before Falkirk midfielder Stephen O'Donnell was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Rudi Skacel made it 2-0 in the 25th minute before Calum Elliot scored his first goal for the club four minutes before the interval. Substitute Michal Pospisil added a fourth in the 73rd minute before Elliot grabbed his second in the dying seconds.
