THE combined efforts of Eamonn Morrissey and Jamesie Brennan were unable to deny Eire Og, Nenagh, their first All Ireland hurling sevens title following a thrilling final at Glenalbyn on Saturday.
The arrival of the Kilkenny pair helped O'Tooles to victory in the Dublin county final this year and they nearly worked their magic once more before a big crowd. O'Tooles, who were attempting to become the first Dublin side to win the hurling sevens, trailed by seven points at the break with Michael Cleary picking off some fine scores from midfield.
However, there was a reversal in fortunes after the interval with Brennan scoring two goals to cut Eire Og's lead to just two points.
And with goalkeeper Brendan McLoughlin venturing further forward as the game wore on, the match was in the balance until Declan O'Meara killed off the game with a goal in the dying minutes.
