BASKETBALL: Neptune held on to the lead of the ESB Superleague despite their 95-89 defeat at the hands of UCD Marian. The Cork club are now just two points clear of Star of the Sea and the Saints, with UCD Marian moving up to fourth.
One of the hardest earned victories of the weekend occurred further down the table, where Notre Dame came from behind to recorded a 91-85 win over Killester.
Things continue to go from bad to worse for the champions Waterford, who went down 81-66 to Mardyke UCC Demons. Though it started out a close contest, with the Cork side narrowly up 24-22 after the first quarter, Waterford soon started to drop back and by the third quarter were struggling.
In the women's Superleague, Killester threw away a great chance of a victory over Tolka Rovers, stumbling in the last quarter and eventually losing 68-66. The University of Limerick remain at the top of the table after their 104-53 hammering of Glanmire.
