NO PLAYERS based with English clubs are included in the 40 chosen by the Leinster selectors for summer training. This means that internationals Conor O'Shea (London Irish), who played for Leinster last season, wing Niall Woods, who also played for Leinster last season, but who has now signed for London Irish from Blackrock College and prop Nick Popplewell (Newcastle), who did not, are not included in the squad.
None of those players will be available for the Interprovincial Championship and in those circumstances the selectors have, at this stage at any rate, ruled them out.
Uncapped players among the backs include Terenure College wing David Coleman, St Mary's College wing Denis Hickie, Lansdowne wing Michael Kearin and Trinity centre Ray McIlreavy - all are under 21 internationals.
Among the forwards, the Wanderers prop Emmet Byrne, Terenure hooker, James Blaney and Lansdowne back row Colin McEntee are also all previously uncapped.
Eric Miller, who last season played with Leicester, and Dean Oswald of Blackrock College - who both played with the province last season - may be added to the squad. Oswald is currently abroad and Miller's position next season is as yet unclear.
It is anticipated that all the provinces will submit 40 strong panels to the IRFU by today. But some of those panels will be subject to amendment because of movement of players between provinces. That issue should be cleared up by the end of next week
