Leinster A qualified for the British Irish Cup quarter-finals after unexpectedly being involved in the first professional rugby union game on a 3G surface, playing out a 30-30 draw against Leeds Carnegie.

Girvan Dempsey’s side scored tries through Jack McGrath, Brendan Macken, Cathal Marsh and Leo Auva’a to win Pool 5 although Marsh missed a simple conversion to secure the victory in Yorkshire.

The game was moved to West Park, Leeds’ artificial pitch, due to snow.
