DIGEST:Former Irish international Tommy Evans has confirmed he will take up a new role with Cycling Ireland, acting as talent identification and development officer, from January 2nd, reports Shane Stokes.

Evans won the FBD Milk Rás in 1996, has been national champion for road race and time trial and has been one of Ireland's most respected international competitors in recent years. He narrowly missed out on a Rás stage win this year but briefly held the yellow jersey and finished fifth overall. "I will be working alongside (high performance director) Frank Campbell and Brian Nugent, the youth development officer. I am going to need his assistance because we will be going to schools and different places, looking for talent," he said

The position will be of vital importance as it will boost the grassroots level and improve the chances of more professionals coming through in future years.

South Africa cricket coach Mickey Arthur was frustrated by the amount of time lost on day three of the second Test against India yesterday. Bad light ended play 30.3 overs early, a power failure dimmed the floodlights, the ball had to be changed and umpire Mark Benson was admitted to intensive care after leaving the field with heart palpitations. South Africa lead by 152 runs.
