BASKETBALL: After a couple of months in limbo, Basketball Ireland will finally announce the name of their new sponsor for the men's Superleague today at the National Arena in Tallaght.

Since ESB pulled the plug at the end of last season the association has been actively seeking a new company to come on board and even drafted in the help of Drury Sports Management to help speed the process along.

After losing ESB, the emphasis switched from one major sponsor to several smaller backers to ensure such an occurrence does not happen again. Only the men's flagship league will be covered by the one season deal, with other competitions like the women's Superleague and Cup still without any sponsor, although Basketball Ireland confirmed a deal has been agreed with RTÉ to continue televising the Cup finals weekend.

Meanwhile, the biggest cheer of the weekend was on Friday night in the Mardyke Arena but it wasn't during the Cork derby between UCC Demons and Neptune. This year's cup draw was made on court at half-time with the two opposing teams being drawn together for the first round in two weeks' time in a repeat of last year's final.

Neptune will go in with a slight advantage as they earned a vital away victory by the narrowest of margins. The derby theme continued yesterday but this time switched to Dublin with the unbeaten Killester overcoming St Vincent's 106 to 102 to stay top of the northern conference. Killester had already beaten Star of the Sea last Thursday but the Belfast club recovered to condemn Ballina to their second consecutive defeat. Tralee Tigers also maintained their one hundred percent record and top spot in the southern conference with a comprehensive victory over the Limerick Lions.
