The Antrim hurling team may fly to New York to compete in the Ulster final after they compete in this year's Christy Ring Cup, New York's senior hurling team has been told.
After training on Tuesday night, management told the players they would have a definitive answer tomorrow night, when New York GAA board chief Seamus Dooley meets Ulster GAA chiefs in Belfast. This Sunday's Ulster final has been called off because New York refused to travel as more than half their team have visa problems and may not be able to re-enter the US.
New York captain Philip Wickham said he was told by management the situation was looking better and that Antrim may travel to New York to play the Ulster final once they have finished the Ring Cup. "Nothing has been decided yet but there is a lot of pressure on Antrim and hopefully they'll do the right thing. We're been told that there might be a breakthrough," he said.
New York selector Mark Comerford said he understood from Tuesday's briefing the situation was looking "pretty good". "We're still waiting for Friday night's meeting but there's a lot more hope," he said.
Comerford said he understood the cost of flying the Antrim team to New York was "not a problem" for the GAA.
