CONNACHT SFC:ROSCOMMON enjoyed a timely return to form last night as the champions eased to a comprehensive 3-21 to 1-11 victory over New York in the Bronx to begin the defence of their Connacht SFC title in impressive fashion.

Goals from Kevin Higgins, Senan Kilbride and Cathal Cregg ensured Fergal O’Donnell’s men more than made amends for last week’s disappointing loss to Longford in the NFL Division Four final as an impressive haul of points sealed a convincing win.

Donie Shine scored 0-6 before being injured in a collision while scoring his last point early in the second half. Kevin Higgins punched a 20th-minute goal after a pass from Senan Kilbride who then made it 2-8 to 0-1 a minute later as Roscommon established a healthy 2-10 to 0-6 interval lead.
