HFDLS SKERRIES, defeated Newpark Comprehensive in an absorbing Section A quarter final at Sutton yesterday. The sides were separated by two second half penalties, struck with aplomb by second row Dermot O'Neill.
Newpark looked the more likely to break the deadlock after a first half which they dominated territorially but could not break down a stout defence.
Shortly after the break, O'Neill took advantage of the stiff breeze to edge Skerries ahead with a well struck kick after a break by number eight Derek Keane brought play to the 25. O'Neill then added his second penalty, from almost the halfway line, after 60 minutes Newpark attacked strongly in the final quarter, but Skerries tackled hard and held on to qualify for a semi final clash with Kilkenny.
