St Mary's College 46 Newpark Comprehensive 0NEWPARK COMPREHENSIVE'S glorious run from Section A to Section C of the Senior Cup was ended by the slick skills of St Mary's College in the first round at Railway Union yesterday.
All the damage was done in the first half when St Mary’s captain Maurice Walsh put in a virtuoso performance for four tries, in addition to a fifth from number eight Mark Fallon. Outhalf Conor Hogan landed three conversions.
The Blackrock-based qualifiers went out on their shield with a defiant second-half performance, inspired by captain Seán Reynolds, which limited St Mary’s to 16 unanswered points with the benefit of the wind.
Their forwards worked their socks down to their ankles, with replacement Harry Connor carrying ball forward and openside Zac Jungmann making a nuisance of himself wherever he went.
They kept the ball well, going to the pick-and-drive in combination with a safe recycling process.
Still, wing Eoin Moriarty, tight-head Shane Kearney and replacement Hugh McGovern completed the set of eight touchdowns.
