Bradford have appointed Chris Hutchings as their new manager following the departure of Paul Jewell to Sheffield Wednesday.
Hutchings, 42, was assistant to Jewell and has been handed a two-year contract, with City's veteran midfielder Stuart McCall set to be offered the number two role.
Club chairman Geoffrey Richmond said yesterday he wanted to maintain continuity in the management set-up at Valley Parade.
City have been unable to contact McCall, who is on holiday, in order to offer him the post, but first team coach Terry Yorath will retain his post.
Chris Waddle, meanwhile, was yesterday looking for another job after resigning as Sheffield Wednesday's reserve team coach in the wake of Jewell's appointment as manager.
Veteran defender Nigel Winterburn is determined to prove age is no barrier after starting a new chapter in his career and joining West Ham at the age of 36 for an undisclosed sum.
The left-back spent 13 glorious years at Arsenal, but after seeing centre-half Steve Bould quit the club and join Sunderland with some success last season, Winterburn has bowed to the inevitable and agreed a two-year contract with the Hammers.
Winterburn is West Ham's second signing of the summer following the purchase of French striker Frederic Kanoute, who has completed a £4 million permanent move from Lyon.
Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale insists his club have won the race to sign Mark Viduka from Celtic.
Ridsdale believes the Australian striker needs only to complete a medical at Elland Road to confirm United's second signing of the summer following the arrival of Olivier Dacourt for £7.2 million.
Meanwhile, Celtic remain optimistic they will be able to capture Chris Sutton as a direct replacement for their departing top scorer. Chelsea have already confirmed they have accepted a £6 million offer from the Hoops for Sutton, but Celtic face stiff competition from Middlesbrough, who have already had the same bid accepted.
Former Nottingham Forest rebel Pierre van Hooijdonk, currently with Holland at Euro 2000, is to join Portuguese giants Benfica from Vitesse Arnhem in a £3.5 million move.
Chelsea are poised to take their summer spending spree towards the £25 million mark by signing Croatian international Mario Stanic from Parma for £5.6 million.
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also play up front, is reported to be close to signing a five-year deal with the Stamford Bridge outfit.
