Tennis: Ireland's sole survivor, Conor Niland, crashed out of the ITF Futures Tour event at Limerick Lawn yesterday when beaten by Denmark's Frederik Nielson 7-5, 6-4.
Niland was 2-4 down in the first set but hit back to level at 5-5 only for the Dane to take the next two games and the set after a crucial break of serve.
In the second set Nielsen led 4-2 and Niland broke back to level at 4-4 but Nielsen again took two games in a row for the match.
The top seed, American Brian Wilson, was a surprise loser to Latvian Andis Juska but number two seed Matthew Smith of England battled hard to beat his countryman Richard Wire 6-4 in the third set.
Amar Sigurdsson of Iceland is also through to today's semi-finals after defeating Australia's Andrew Coelho, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2.
