No Excuse Needed can overturn Royal Ascot form to land the Champagne Lanson Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood today.

There were excuses in the St James's Palace Stakes at the Royal meeting for Sir Michael Stoute's promising colt, who finished fifth behind Black Minnaloushe, Noverre, Olden Times and Vahorimix.

No Excuse Needed was desperately unlucky not to finish in the first two after a nightmare run in the straight. The first three home that day re-oppose in today's £275,000 Group One but No Excuse Needed, who will be well suited by the prevailing fast ground, has the scope for the most improvement.

There are some potentially top-class juveniles set to go to post for the Champagne Lanson Vintage Stakes and it can be Leo's Luckyman who emerges victorious.

Mark Johnston's powerfully-built son of Woodman looked an exciting prospect when winning an Ayr maiden by eight lengths on his debut. He made all the running and quickened clear over one furlong out to score most impressively.

Leo's Luckyman looks sure to develop into one of the leading juveniles this season and can lift today's seven-furlong Group Three event on the way.
