KEITH NOLAN, from Bray, shot a course record 66 in the final round of the Irish Amateur Open Championship at Fota Island yesterday to win the title with a two under par total of 286.

Nolan (23), has just returned from college at East Tennessee State and yesterday added the open championship to the North of Ireland title he captured last July.

Nolan completed a great comeback when he birdied three of the last four holes, the highlight being a spectacular bunker shot that hit the pin and dropped in to the hole for a three at the 15th when a bogey looked certain.

Nolan capitalised with a five iron to three feet for a two at the 17th and got up and down from the back of the green at the long 18th for a four.

His 66 improved by one Padraig Harrington's record on his way to winning the championship 12 months ago.

Nolan had two strokes to spare over 22 year old Dubliner, Peter Lawrie, who yesterday twice broke 70 to finish on an even par total of 288.
