KEITH NOLAN has taken a significant step towards achieving his goal in amateur golf a Walker Cup place. The 23 year old from Bray has been selected on the British and Irish St Andrews Trophy team to meet the Continent of Europe at Woodhall Spa on August 30th and 31st.
Jody Fanagan, a Walker Cup representative at Royal Porthcawl last September, was an automatic choice on the nine member line up. Two selections, Barclay Howard and Gary Wolstenholme, were in the victorious side at Chantilly two years ago.
"I'm very liappy, mainly because this represents a step nearer Walker Cup selection", said Nolan, who won the Irish Open Strokeplay Championship, earlier this season. "That's my ultimate ambition in amateur golf." Meanwhile, selection will cause Nolan to delay his return to East Tennessee University where he is among a group of Irish players on golf scholarships.
