North Leinster clubs came out best in the Clarins-sponsored Eastern District Team finals at Westmanstown last week. Of the four finals, three went north, with Dun Laoghaire stopping a clean-sweep by beating Forrest Little in the fourth team final.
Hermitage got the north off to a winning start when they beat Foxrock 4-1 in the second team final. After going close in recent years, Hermitage, who were captained by Dorothy Doyle, assisted by Veronica Rooney, beat Elm Park, Clontarf, Headfort and Malahide on their way to this year's final.
The winning Hermitage team was Nuala Acton, Suzie Hayes, Diane Lennon and Ann Cahill, while Derbhla Brennan played in all the matches up to the final. Ashbourne won their first Autumn Team trophy when their team of Kathleen Lonergan, Denise King, Marcella Kelly, Sheila Mangan and Pauline Gleeson, with team manager Carmel Conway, beat Powerscourt 3-2 in the third team final.
Dun Laoghaire stopped the northside dominance when beating Forrest Little 4-1 in the fourth team final. Captained by Frances Connolly, the Dun Laoghaire team included Sheila Kennedy, Kathleen Keane, Phil Glavin, Rita Saunders and Mary Hodkinson.
Celebrations went on long into the night in Balbriggan after their fifth team recorded their first success in the competition, beating Kilcoole 3-2 in an exciting final that went to a tie hole. Helen Fullam was the winning captain and her successful team was Ann Griffin, Frances Monahan, Margaret Campbell, Evelyn Flood and Rita Murphy.
