Scotland's unexpected 34-10 victory over New South Wales in Sydney has boosted coach Jim Telfer's hopes before his tourists take on the rampant Wallabies in Sydney on Saturday in the first of two internationals.

But he is keeping his players' feet firmly on the ground. "It's very difficult to judge from that performance what the match will be like this Saturday, basically because England was so dreadful."

The Scots' victory, with four tries to two, was a vast improvement on the Test loss to Fiji and unconvincing wins over Victoria and NSW Country.

"There were one or two good things, but there were quite a lot of imperfections," Telfer said. "Australia will be a far better team than NSW."
