NUIG 3-10 DIT 0-15: NUI Galway booked their place in the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-finals thanks to a superb second-half performance at Pearse Stadium yesterday.
DIT led by 0-9 to 1-3 at the break and would have been more in command were it not for six wides in the opening quarter and the concession of a scrappy goal to NUIG's David Kenny after 20 minutes.
However, within five minutes of the restart, the Galway side assumed control of the game. Finian Coone was moved into corner forward at half-time and he rattled the net within two minutes of the restart to get NUI Galway back into contention.
Two minutes later Dara Shannon's long ball was collected by the impressive Kenny, who made no mistake from close range to score his second goal of the game and put his side three points clear - 3-4
to 0-10.
DIT rallied, with James Moran adding to his impressive tally of five first-half points with a free, before Martin Phelan scored from play.
However, the winners responded with five points in 10 minutes - including two each from Kenny and the excellent Darragh Egan - to seal the win.
