NUI Galway 0-11 Sligo IT 0-10:SUBSTITUTE FIACHRA Deasmhumnaigh was the hero for NUI Galway as he landed a late point to secure victory at Dangan yesterday. NUIG should have wrapped up the issue long before that, but they failed to turn their third-quarter dominance into scores, hitting just three points from play. Mayo player Jason Doherty kicked 0-7 from frees.

Sligo IT enjoyed good spells in the opening half, with Monaghan’s Gary White kicking three points from play, adding a brace after the restart, including one free after the sides were deadlocked at 0-6 each at the break. Sligo IT landed points from White (two) and Croal to lead by 0-10 to 0-8 with six minutes left, but NUIG’s Doherty and Douglas levelled before Deasmhumnaigh secured victory.
