Galway United 0 Cork City 3:Colin T O' Brien twice, his first goals of the season for Cork, as City got their hopes of playing in Europe back on track and pushed Galway United nearer the relegation trap door.
It took 29 minutes in a drab first half for the first shot on goal. Galway goalkeeper Robbie Forde was villain and hero in turn as he redeemed himself to make a super save from Ollie Cahill after dropping a cross from Alan Carey.
Colin T. O'Brien, who just a minute earlier headed narrowly wide of his own goal from a Derek O'Brien cross, then scored his first goal of the season for City in the final minute of the first half; skillfully volleying home.
Galway responded positively and created several chance in the opening minutes of the second-half that failed to get the reward of an equaliser.
But the game was over as a contest on 72 minutes when Pat Morley slotted home a penalty. O'Brien then scored his second when his cross from the right went in off a post.
