Aidan O'Brien's two-year-old bandwagon met with a setback when odds-on favourite Royal Kingdom trailed in a poor fifth in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud yesterday. The Group One race was won by the Dominique Boeufridden Goldamix, the only filly in the race, who led from the start and held the late rush of Petroselli by a length.

The 10-lengths defeat of Royal Kingdom dashed the hopes of the trio of trainer O'Brien, owner Michael Tabor and jockey Michael Kinane achieving a grand slam in the French Group One races for two-year-old colts.

Tabor said: "It's disappointing not to get the grand slam especially as Royal Kingdom was a 2 to 5 shot. But that does not make them win, does it?"
