O'Brien to have two in Oaks

Sunspangled and Crystal Downs are set to try and repeat Aidan O'Brien's 1998 success with Shahtoush in Friday's Epsom Oaks.

Sunspangled and Crystal Downs are set to try and repeat Aidan O'Brien's 1998 success with Shahtoush in Friday's Epsom Oaks.

The Ballydoyle trainer has four fillies left in the race but Carambola looks like being kept for the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot and Pink Coral will run in tomorrow's listed McCalmont Stakes at Gowran.

"Crystal Downs and Sunpangled look to be the ones," O'Brien said yesterday after his Epsom Derby hope, Saffron Walden, had pleased him in a light work out.

"They only did a nice canter but Saffron Walden was very good. We might also still run Tchaikovsky at Epsom, although he is more likely to wait for Sunday's French Derby. Tchaikovsky has been very well since his last race and he should be OK on any ground," O'Brien added.

Saturday's Epsom Derby allows O'Brien to exorcise the memory of the great race last year when his trio of Second Empire (8th), Saratoga Springs (10th) and King Of Kings (15th) all disappointed.

O'Brien also reported yesterday that the one-time 2,000 Guineas favourite Stravinsky is being prepared for Royal Ascot's Jersey Stakes.
