O'Connell set for Tipperary event

MOTOR SPORT:PAUL O'CONNELL leads the Magnus Technology Hillclimb and Sprint Championship with a maximum score of 60 points from the first six rounds in Wexford, Galway and Clare.

The reigning champion competes in the Tipperary club's rounds seven and eight at The Sweep, Dungarvan, Co Waterford, along with Simon McKinley (48 points), Peter Dwyer (30), Séamus Morris (28), Darryl Ramsey (25) and Rory Stephens (21).

This weekend a large contingent of Irish racing drivers and their helpers travel to Holyhead for a two-day race meeting at the Anglesey Circuit organised by the Leinster Motor Club. Dan Daly and Ken Fildes head up the Formula Libre entry and the Fiat Abarth saloon class will again feature an intense battle between Clive Pratt and his brother Nigel on 53 and 51 points, respectively, Liam Denning (48), Gordon Kellett (45) and Noel Greene (42).

Paddy White in a Ford Focus WRC, Kenny McKinstry and Kevin Lynch in Subaru WRC's, Seán McArdle (Toyota Corolla WRC), Mark Courtney and Tom Holton in Toyota Celica GT4's, Pat Donegan (Ford Escort Mk.2) and Maurice Moffett (Toyota Starlet RWD) are the top seeds in Sunday's ALMC rally run out of the City North Hotel HQ near Julianstown. Also entered are English drivers Mark Jasper and Tom Stone in metro 6Rs.

The event is also a round of the Mitsubishi Evo Challenge led by Alan Carmichael on 27 points from Brendan Cumiskey (24).
