Drogheda United ... 1 UCD ... 0 A precious strike from defender Danny O'Connor at the start of the second-half secured three points for Drogheda against an unfortunate UCD side at O2 Park.
UCD responded by piling the pressure on the Drogheda goal, but a combination of good fortune and dogged defending saw the home side hold out.
The opening half was a rather tame affair with Drogheda creating the greater share of the few clear-cut chances.
Brian Kelly's left-wing cross was headed off the UCD bar by Andy Myler and Declan O'Brien's powerful close range header from a Dave Smith corner was hooked from the goal-line by Clive Delaney.
With the second-half just three minutes old Drogheda won a corner on the right. Gary Cronin swung the ball into the area and O'Connor's looping header deceived Barry Ryan in the UCD goal.
The students equalised almost immediately when Darragh Ryan's close range shot was stopped by Rogers, and seven minutes from the end UCD's substitute Pat Burke fired unbelievably wide of an empty net.
