Roy O'Donovan looks set to complete a move to Fulham over the weekend as the Premiership outfit and Cork City move closer to agreeing a price for the 21-year-old striker.
City confirmed on Wednesday night that bids had been received from Fulham and the League Two outfit Southend United for the Republic of Ireland under-21 international, who has scored 19 goals for City this season.
Both offers are believed to have been in the region of €300,000 but City have since sought to improve the terms involved and it seems that Lawrie Sanchez and his employers are prepared to pay around €425,000, with further payments depending on appearances and international caps as well as any subsequent sale of the player to another club.
O'Donovan is out of contract in Cork at the end of the season and he has repeatedly signalled his intention to try his luck again in England, where he previously had spells at Coventry and Cheltenham Town.
Because of his age, however, City would be entitled to compensation worth around half of what they are now considering letting him go for.
The figure is around four times what Reading paid City for Kevin Doyle a couple of years ago and significantly more than the club received when defender Alan Bennett followed the striker to England.
Alan Lee has turned down a new deal at Ipswich Town that would have made him the club's highest-paid player. The Galwayman's refusal to paves the way for Hull City to make a third bid for the 29-year-old.
