FITZGIBBON CUP/MARY IMMACULATE, LIMERICK - 2-17; UU JORDANSTOWN - 2-3: It was easy enough in the end for Mary Immaculate as they inflicted a heavy defeat on UUJ in the Fitzgibbon Cup in Limerick yesterday, but they had to survive an early scare after Ryan McCluskey was on target from a penalty for the visitors a few minutes into the contest.
Managed by Eamonn Cregan, Mary Immaculate dusted down the cobwebs and a goal from Brian Cullinane and points from David O'Dwyer and John Anderson had them ahead, 1-5 to 1-1, at the half-time break, having played into a strong breeze.
It was mainly one-way traffic on the resumption, with the winners clocking up a string of points from Pat Vaughan, Joe O'Leary, Anderson and O'Dwyer, and from a magnificent 100-yard free from goalkeeper David Bulfin.
O'Dwyer then settled the issue with a second goal, and it mattered little that Michael McCambridge raised a green flag at the other end a few minutes later.
Mary Immaculate will now play local rivals LIT in the quarter-finals.
