Wicklow 2-10 Carlow 1-8: MICK O'DWYER has set up a second-round game with Dublin next Sunday following victory over Carlow at Blessington yesterday.Dominating in the first half, with wing back Leighton Glynn orchestrating the show, Wicklow built on their 1-6 to 1-1 interval lead.
Their goal was rifled to the net after eight minutes by John McGrath. After Wicklow players picked up three (Eoin Keogh, John McGrath and Pat Brophy) of the four yellow cards issued by referee Syl Doyle, O'Dwyer said he would have to give the new rules more of a chance before passing judgment.
Carlow upped their game in the second half as Brian Murphy landed five points, six in all. JJ Smith drilled home their goal in the 23rd minute.Their resurgence was diminished by the fact Wicklow had lost the spine of the side to yellow cards.
