Derry City - 1 Longford Town - 0: Derry City's impressive start to the season continued at the Brandywell last night with a late victory over Longford Town. The win carries them to the top of the Premier Division with substitute Stephen O'Flynn hailed the hero.

In what proved an inspired substitution from Derry boss, Stephen Kenny in the 77th minute, O'Flynn pounced on a half-clearance from the Longford defence, to power the ball home from eight yards.

And it was a goal Derry thoroughly deserved, if only for their persistence in going forward as the visitors set their stall out to hold out for a share of the spoils, displaying very little ambition.

Neither side gave anything away in what proved a poor first half, but it was the home side who went closest to scoring with Mark Farren guilty of missing two good chances.
