O'Flynn keeps his nerve

Glenstal Abbey... 6 Crescent College..

Glenstal Abbey ... 6 Crescent College ... 5:Glenstal Abbey advanced to the semi-finals of the Munster Schools Senior Cup for the first time in nine years, thanks to a dramatic one-point victory over a fancied Crescent College Comprehensive side at Clanwilliam RFC's grounds yesterday.

Outhalf Mike O'Flynn proved the Glenstal hero as he displayed nerves of steel to land the match -winning penalty from five metres inside the opposition half in the first minute of stoppage-time.

Crescent College made the better start and the Limerick city side's spell of early pressure was rewarded when impressive centre Glen Robertson set up winger Mark Doyle to score the game's only try.

Despite dominating much of the half, Crescent College failed to score again. Glenstal began to settle and an O'Flynn penalty midway through the half brought the Murroe side back into the game.

Despite having to endure increased pressure, Crescent College were still clinging to their 5-3 half-time lead when impressive out-half O'Flynn struck for the match-winning penalty in added-time.

Glenstal Abbey will now face CBC, of Cork, in the semi-final.
