GALWAY manager John O'Mahony is angry at the suspension of his All Star full forward Padraig Joyce. Sent off in the Connacht League play-off against Sligo last Sunday, Joyce is expected to pick up at least a two-week suspension. O'Mahony fears it could a month's.
"It's a terrible injustice if, as we fear, he gets a month because he could miss six games, including all the Sigerson Cup matches next week. I'm upset for Padraig because he is not that sort of player."
Otherwise the Galway team to face Tyrone this weekend shows three changes from the side which lost to Cork last time out. Lloyd Kelly comes into goal to replace Martin McNamara, who is currently unavailable. Paul Clancy and Damien Mitchell come in for Declan Meehan and Shay Walsh respectively.
Ciaran McDonald has returned to the Mayo panel for Sunday's league match with Monaghan at Scotstown. Corner forward McDonald failed to return to training with the county after Christmas and there was speculation that he had fallen out with team manager John Maughan after being substituted during a league match with Kildare.
The player didn't re-appear for the Connacht League matches after Christmas despite being twice named on the team. His re-appearance will come as a relief for Maughan, whose attacking options haven't been improving during the campaign to date.
"We're glad to have Ciaran back on the panel as things are not going particularly well for us at the moment and we have a very tough assignment on Sunday," said Maughan.
The team for Sunday shows two changes from the side which drew with Clare. Gordon Morley, a son of the late John, comes in for Pat Holmes at left corner back.
Dublin make an enforced change with Jim Gavin awaiting suspension after a sending-off in a club match. Ray Cosgrove comes into the right corner of the attack with Senan Connell switching to the left wing to replace Gavin.
Kildare selectors have left three vacancies on the team to play Clare. Glen Ryan and Cathal Sheridan have not been named because of leg injuries while Padraig Brennan has an Achilles tendon injury. Team captain Ryan and Brennan both picked up their injuries against Laois in the last league match. Sheridan was injured while playing in the Sigerson Cup.
Tyrone bring back Gerard Cavlan for Sunday's trip to Tuam. Cavlan has recovered from a leg injury and replaces Niall McSorley, whom he replaced against Donegal, in the half forward line.
A series of sweeping positional changes made by Danny Ball a fortnight ago proved successful in Tyrone's first win of the season, over Donegal, and the manager has decided to stick to his winning formula.
Ciaran McBride, better known as a corner forward, continues as Pascal Canavan's midfield partner, while Brian Dooher, also an experienced attacker, is again selected in the half back line. The return of Cavlan is sure to add further spark to a forward division which excelled against Donegal, with Peter Canavan, Adrian Cush and particularly Mattie McGleenan returning to top form.
Monaghan make two changes from the team that took a valuable point against Derry in Celtic Park two weeks ago for Mayo's visit to Scotstown.
Joe Coyle and Declan Smyth come in to replace James Coyle and Paul O'Connor, a move that sees the attack rejigged a little with Damien Freeman moving to the 40 yards berth.
