In Newlands Mary K O'Mahony finished her season with the coveted and much sought after Golfer of the Year crown.
And. as if to emphasis that her good form wasn't just confined to the summer months, she continued her winning streak in the last couple of weeks adding some more wins to her ever growing list of achievements.
Last week she partnered Fiona Ryan (21) and Phyllis Hollowed (30) to win a team event where their combined score of 58 points over 12 holes gave them a one-point victory over the next best team, which consisted of Ursula Connell (20), Mary Whelan (20) and Pat Turner (21).
And that wasn't O'Mahony's only recent success as the week before the 18 handicapper shot 27 points over 12 holes to win Class One of the weekly singles competition, an event won by Mary Whelan (20) who had 29 points. Apart from those two recent wins, O'Mahony had also won the Kellsboro Cup, in which Maeve Halpin was runner-up. So it was hardly surprising that she ended the season as the Golfer of the Year.
Other winners at Newlands this season were: Pat O'Leary (ILGU Silver Medal and LGU Pendant), Anne Croft (ILGU Bronze Medal), Mairead Webb (ILGU Silver Spoon), Sheilagh Keogh and Margaret Carroll (Military Cup), Anne Croft and Mary Carroll (Maureen Moore Fourball).
