NEWS ROUNDUP: Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has dropped the clearest hint yet that he intends to extend his Parkhead contract soon. O'Neill is in the final year of his current three-year contract, but has now revealed that discussions are imminent.
He had been advised to get out of Scotland by former Rangers manager Dick Advocaat, who is to step down from his current Ibrox role of director of football in November.
O'Neill said: "The comments were reported back to me. I intend to hang around for a while. I'm sure there will be talks after the Old Firm game." Celtic play hosts to leaders Rangers next Sunday, with just a single point separating the two sides.
Thierry Henry will walk off the pitch if he is subjected to racist taunts again while playing for Arsenal. Henry was targeted for racial abuse and had missiles thrown at him during his side's Champions League win over PSV Eindhoven at the Philips Stadion last Wednesday night.
UEFA have launched an investigation into the incident, but Henry does not believe enough has been done to stamp out the problem.
"There is no place for racism and the authorities should be doing a lot more to deal with the problem," he said. "It sickens me when people feel they have a right to judge you by the colour of your skin."
Meanwhile, Arsenal have played down reports that striker Dennis Bergkamp will quit the club at the end of this season after the Dutchman had been quoted in a newspaper saying he would leave Highbury when his contract expires in May.
Alex Ferguson has earmarked John O'Shea as Rio Ferdinand's long-term central defensive partner. The talented young Irishman has impressed Old Trafford observers with some outstanding displays this season. O'Shea has played at right-back for the club, but it is in the heart of United's back four that Ferguson sees the 21-year-old's future. "Next season Rio and John could be the partnership," he said.
