LEAGUE OF IRELAND PREMIER DIVISION:Bray Wanderers 1 Sporting Fingal 3

SPORTING FINGAL recorded their first league win of the season when, inspired by two second-half goals by striker Gary O’Neill, they eased their way to victory over still pointless Bray Wanderers in a one-sided Premier Division clash at the Carlisle Grounds.

With Fingal having the early chances the pressure was bound to tell and former Bray man Eamon Zayed gave the visitors the lead on 15 minutes when he collected a Ger O’Brien cross from the right. The striker then spun past a lethargic home defence and fired home from 14 yards into the corner of the net.

Bray then wasted the chance of an equaliser when midfielder Chris Shields flicked the ball just wide of the upright after a James Kavanagh corner on the left caused problems in the Fingal defence.

Fingal doubled their lead as O’Neill made no mistake on 53 minutes, firing into the roof of the net from 10 yards after the impressive Ronan Finn had slipped past two Bray defenders on the right to set up the chance.

Finn almost had a third goal for Fingal when this time going on a surging run from midfield and shooting past goalkeeper Brian Kane only to see his goal-bound shot taken off the line by veteran Bray defender Colm Tresson.

To their credit, Bray did pull a goal back on 75 minutes when the Sporting defence failed to properly clear a corner from Kavanagh which allowed Shane O’Neill to volley perfectly home from 23 yards.

But Fingal were to have the final say and it was that man Finn again who carved open the home defence for O’Neill to fire home on 81 minutes from six yards at the second attempt.
