Knockbeg College, Carlow 1-5 Good Counsel, New Ross 0-6: A 42-minute goal from corner forward Seán O'Shea saw Knockbeg College, Carlow shock favourites Good Counsel at New Ross yesterday.
Good Counsel, having played into the wind, trailed by just 0-3 to 0-2 at the break.
Surprisingly, it was the Carlow college who controlled the game. Playing into the strong wind on the resumption, they picked off some excellent scores, while their defence dominated.
Their goal was the result of a splendid passing move involving six players, and when Colm Doran and O'Shea added further points to put them 1-5 to 0-3 clear with 12 minutes remaining, there was no way back for the home side.
