IRELAND'S Sonia O'Sullivan continued her winning start to Olympic season at the Moscow grand prix meeting last night. O'Sullivan was almost two seconds clear of her nearest rival in winning the women's 3,000 metres in a time of eight minutes 47.32 seconds.
In a slowly run race some eight seconds outside the year's fastest she set in Oregon two weeks ago O'Sullivan's sprint finish left Russia's Yelena Romanova trailing in second place with Kenya's Pauline Konga a second further back.
Algerian world champion Noureddine Morceli failed to better his own world 1,500 metres record on a windy evening. Morceli, paced by his younger brother Ali and another compatriot Abdelkrim Benzai, clocked three minutes 33.22 seconds after taking the lead midway through the penultimate lap.
