Jose Maria Olazabal has confirmed his participation in next month's BMW Championship at Wentworth, the event he rates the most important outside the four majors.
The 40-year-old Spaniard picked up the title in 1994 and has never missed the cut in the tournament formerly known as the PGA Championship.
"I recall winning the PGA five weeks after my first US Masters victory," Olazabal said today. "That was the icing on the cake in 1994 because if I had to choose any title outside the majors, this is the one to win."
Olazabal, who also won the Masters in 1999, came close to securing his third green jacket when he finished joint third at Augusta earlier this month.
"I had a wonderful last round at Augusta and it was a special moment to eagle the 15th and get close to the leaders," he said.
Olazabal's closing six-under-par 66 was the best round of the week and helped him finish three shots behind champion Phil Mickelson.
His performance at Augusta has taken him to the top of the Ryder Cup world points list and within sight of a seventh appearance in the match against the US at the K-Club in September. The BMW Championship starts on May 25th.
