US Tour News: Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal, world number one Tiger Woods and Nathan Green were locked in a three-way play-off in the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines, San Diego, California yesterday.
In a dramatic final round, in which the lead changed hands a number of times, the trio tied on 10-under-par 278 to set up the play-off.
Olazabal birdied the last for a 68. Woods, who also birdied the last to force his way in, finished with a 72 while Green also shot a final round of 72.
Olazabal, four shots off the pace overnight, bogeyed the par-four first but then birdied four of the next eight holes to get to 10 under for the tournament in bright sunshine at Torrey Pines.
However, he dropped a shot at the 12th to be joined at nine-under-par by John Rollins, who eagled the 10th, Arjun Atwal, Green and Phil Mickelson, through 12 holes.
Jonathan Kaye set the early clubhouse target when he birdied the last five hole for a 68 and a total of nine-under-par 279. Kaye was later joined by Rollins, who a held the lead briefly when he eagled the 10th, but despite birdies at the 13th, 14th and 17th, dropped shots at the 11th and 15th left back on nine under par.
Woods, one behind joint leaders Sergio Garcia and Rod Pampling at the start of the day, missed short par putts on four and five to slip back to eight under before picking up his first shot of the day at the seventh. At the par-four fourth, Woods missed from six feet while on five he three-putted from 25 feet.
