Aidan O'Brien revealed yesterday he is set to have no more than two runners in Sunday's Aga Khan Studs National Stakes at the Curragh. The record-breaking trainer, who gained the first Group One victory of his career when Desert King took the one-mile event last year, left six juveniles in the race yesterday morning.

But leading 2,000 Guineas hope and last month's Solario Stakes fourth Celtic Cavalier are the only likely runners. "We will probably just run a couple," the trainer announced.

"King Of Kings will run and he is very well. And we may run Celtic Cavalier, who I thought ran okay at Sandown. It would be nice to win the race again."

King Of Kings is likely to head the markets when they are produced although a spokesman for local bookmakers Paddy Power said punters may have to wait until later in the week for prices.

"There are too many imponderables for us to quote at the moment and until they are more certain of trainer's plans I don't think backers will be too interested," he said.

Probable second favourite when books are made will be Champagne Stakes winner Central Park, whose trainer Paul Cole could also run last month's Kempton scorer Mowbray.

Other acceptors in a field of 16 declared yesterday included the Michael Stoute-trained pair Aliabad and Kilimanjaro, both declared non-runners by a stable spokeswoman.

A six-strong British entry is completed by the Mark Prescott-trained Mountain Song and Reg Akehurst's Saints Be Praised.
