Only two motions were carried at yesterday's agm of the Golfing Union of Ireland in Maynooth.

From now on it will be mandatory for all open singles qualifying to be by computer entry and the results uploaded to the Central Database of Handicaps.

The delegates also passed that the number of 0.1s increases to any individual, in a single calendar year, be limited to 20.

The annual debate on full handicaps in fourball competitions again came up for discussion but the Leinster motion to increase the allowance to seven eights was again defeated. The three-quarter handicap allowance will remain for at least another year.

Bernard Hynes from the Carrick-on-Suir club was elected president while Michael Burns from Tramore takes over from Mark Gannon as captain of the senior team, Pádraig Hogan (Elm Park) replaces Burns as youths' captain, while Dick Cusack (Greystones) is the new boys' captain.
