Ospreys chief Lyn Jones admitted to having mixed emotions after his side clinched the Magners Celtic League title with victory at Netherdale yesterday. Ospreys claimed a 24-16 victory but the game marked Borders' final game as they bowed out of existence.
Reivers had badly wanted to mark their passing with a positive display - and they made the Welshmen battle for their triumph. Ed Kalman went over for the hosts with Calum MacRae slotting the conversion and landing three penalties.
Sonny Parker (two) and Filo Tiatia scored tries for Ospreys. James Hook landed three conversions and a penalty.
And there were conflicting emotions as the final whistle sounded at Netherdale, the visitors whooping in delight and relief - the hosts fighting back tears of pride and frustration.
Jones said: "Naturally we are thrilled - but it is hard to celebrate when the team we faced are going out of existence. Borders produced a really brave performance, as we knew they would, and we feel for them."
