Bertram Allen’s excellent end to 2014 continued on Saturday afternoon at Olympia in London where the 19-year-old Wexford show jumper recorded his second straight win at the five-star show.
On board Billy Twomey’s bay stallion Aminko N, Allen saw off six rivals in the Christmas Masters where riders take on an initial round followed by four jump-offs over a total of six fences, with the height of individual fences being raised in each round to a maximum of 1.50m. The Irish combination was the only one to leave all poles intact in the final round where Belgium’s Jos Verlooy had one fence down with Golden Horta.
Last night, from his favourable last-to-go draw, Allen won the speed class with Wild Thing L, on which he was second in Thursday’s competition to The Netherlands’ Maikel van der Vleuten and VDL Groep Eureka.
