The Ireland women’s team snapped a 17-game losing streak against Pakistan as they got the better of the opening game of the T20 Quadrangular under lights in Doha, Qatar, last night.

Ireland had not beaten Pakistan since the first T20 international between the sides in Skerries in 2009, but finally bucked that trend to give new coach Trent Johnston his first win in the job. The winners chased down a target of 98 with two balls to spare thanks to a 44-run fourth-wicket stand between the Joyce twins, skipper Isobel (28) and Cecelia (30 not out).

Earlier, Ireland restricted Pakistan to 97 for four after winning the toss, with Isobel Joyce, Louise McCarthy and leg-spinner Elena Tice taking the wickets.

Ireland take on South Africa today before a second game against Pakistan.
