While most of the equestrian focus at the weekend was centred on the Tattersalls international horse trials, the action in Co Meath concluded on Sunday leaving the two-star international show jumping event in Mullingar hog the limelight on Bank Holiday Monday.

Eleven combinations went through to the second round of the feature class, the €25,000 Ballynegall Feeds 1.45m Grand Prix, but only two managed to record double clears. Taking the €8,250 first prize was Comber's Sophie Dalm who broke the beam on 43.87 seconds with Roselane Stables' 11-year-old Selle Francais gelding Remake Lande.

Young rider Matt Garrigan, from north Co Dublin, also went clear against the clock with his father Martin's nine-year-old Holstein gelding Contino 56 but was fractions slower in 43.92 and had to settle for second. Riding the Minister for Defence's Irish Sport Horse gelding Dunganstown Boy, Lieutenant David Power left all the poles intact but picked up a time penalty when home in 48 seconds to finish third.

Best of the British riders was Annabel Shields who, with a pole down in the second round, placed fourth with Wet Wet Wet. Earlier in the day, the honours also went north when Gabriel Tunney landed the Edward and Margaret Fagan 1.30m jump-off class with the nine-year-old ISH mare Lavish.
