Castleknock's James McGee was sent crashing out of Australian Open qualifying in the second round by native Dane Propoggia at Melbourne Park.

Fresh off the back of a surprise win over Slovakia's Norbert Gombos, the 12th seed in the draw, 27-year-old McGee went down 6-3 6-4 to Propoggia despite being clear favourite going into the match.

Despite being ranked 99 places above his opponent, who was in the qualifying draw by virtue of a wildcard, McGee missed a number of opportunities to break and was beaten in an hour and 15 minutes.
