Nicolas Roche up to second in Vuelta

Irish rider was sixth in time-trial and trails leader Vincenzo Nibali by 33 seconds

Nicolas Roche cimbed back up to second in ‘La Vuelta’ this afternoon, following a sixth-place finish behind stage 11 winner Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland.

Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali moved into the overall lead after the 38.8-kilometre time trial, having finished fourth, one minute and 24 seconds behind Cancellara. Roche, of Team Saxo-Tinkoff, was 1:48 behind the Swiss rider.

Germany’s Tony Martin, was second to former world and Olympic time trial champion Cancellara on the hilly individual time-trial that started and finished in Tarazona, with Italy’s Domenico Pozzovivo third.

The Tour of Spain finished on September 15th.
