3.15pm - Athletics

Sara Treacy runs in the final of the 3000m steeplechase after she was reinstated on appeal after falling in her heat. The Meath athlete slipped off the track after a pile-up in front of her, but the appeal was successful and she was reinstated along with Etenesh Diro from Ethiopia and Aisha Praught from Jamaica. A total of 18 athletes will line up for the final.

3.35pm - Athletics

Thomas Barr will hope to fare better than track compatriot Mark English when he takes to the Olympic Stadium in heat five of the men’s 400m hurdles. Barr was in flying form at the beginning of last year – breaking the Irish record with a 48.65 seconds – but the recurrence of an old hip injury has stunted him this season and it’s difficult to know what to expect of the Waterford man in Rio.

5.05pm – Sailing

Perhaps Ireland’s best chance of another medal, Annalise Murphy enters the medal race of the women’s laser radial in bonze medal position. After suffering the heartbreak of fourth place in London in 2012, Murphy will be hopeful of medalling in Rio and is at least guaranteed of a top five finish the way the standings currently are.

Medal races count for double-points. On this basis, Murphy is effectively tied for the Silver medal position with Anne-Marie Rindom if she beats the Dane by one place as the tie-break is decided on who had the better result.

For Murphy to win the Gold, she would also need to beat race leader Marit Boumeester of the Netherlands by five places.

In the men’s 49er category Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern take to the water for races seven, eight and nine at 5.05pm, 6.05pm and 7.05pm respectively.

The Irish pair lie fourth overall after a first place finish on Saturday.

At the same time is the women’s 49er FX class where Saskia Tidey and Andrea Brewster will look to improve on their 12th position.

7.15pm - Diving

Ireland’s first diving competitor in 68 years – Oliver Dingley – will take to the 3m springboard for his preliminary round at the (now blue again) diving pool. The 23-year-old is from Harrowgate in Yorkshire but declared for Ireland on the basis that his grandmother comes from Spike Island in Cork.

9.30pm – Badminton

Having made history by securing a first ever badminton win on Friday, Scott Evans followed that up with a 2-1 victory over Brazilian Ygor Coelho de Oliveira on Saturday night. His reward is a last-16 tie against Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen. Axelsen won in straight sets when the pair met at last year’s All-England championships.
